一位特工和一名新闻记者调查总统被刺杀背后的阴谋......美国总统在出席一所大学举行的国家荣誉奖的颁奖仪式的途中遭遇枪杀……作为专门负责保护美国重要领导人安全的王牌特工，艾力克斯为自己的失职感到深深的自责，以致于终日用酒精来麻醉自己；一位负责报道此案的女记者凯特意外地发现了寻找真凶线索，然而，似乎总有人在监视她的行踪，每一个为她提供线索的人都离奇的死亡。无奈之下，她只好寻求艾力克斯的帮助；可是他们见面的当天就遭到神秘人的袭击，几乎丧命。艾力克斯也因此坚定了查清事实真相的决心，于是，他和凯特开始了一段充满艰难险阻的历程，最终揭开了刺杀总统事件背后的罪恶阴谋……
